Hearing “Fast Car” on the radio going to work

brought back a lot of memories. I remember seeing the video for that song when I was in high school?, and thinking this is such a cool song. And how it became immensely popular and rose to the top of the billboard charts too. I think it was around this time that I started getting exposed to singer-songwriter music, not just band music.



I remember Mike Flynn and I having a discussion about this song, and he made an interesting comment about how that song, which really is a great song, was super fortunate to get picked up by the radio, since there are so many great songs out there that didn’t have a chance to be on the radio. He had a great point about that.



Anyway, I hope Tracy Chapman is still living off her royalties from that song, and that she is continuing to make good music. We haven’t heard from her in a while. I hope the best for her.
